Burnaby is a leading public school district, and is certified by the Provincial Ministry of Education. Located in the centre of Greater Vancouver, the Burnaby School District offers the exciting opportunity for students from overseas to study in one of its 8 secondary or 41 elementary schools while experiencing a beautiful part of the world. International students can begin their studies in September, January (elementary), or February (secondary). Students can enrol for a summer, a semester, a school year, or more. Burnaby is the 4th largest school district in BC. As of September 30, 2011, Burnaby School District has a K-12 student population of 23,716 full-time equivalent (FTE) students. Facilities
Byrne Creek Secondary School has a science super lab, as well as a superb dance studio and dramatic arts studio. Their computer labs and cafeteria are state-of-the-art. Cariboo Hill has an outstanding auto mechanics shop, computer lab, library, music studio, metal- and woodworking shop and weight room. Moscrop Secondary has an amazing robotics lab where students can engineer and build hands-on robotics of their imagination.
Sports and Arts
Burnaby Mountain Secondary beams with a stellar staff in swimming, while Burnaby Central has unique program in ice hockey and soccer. Byrne Creek Secondary has a special Basketball Academy, and has won a recent championship in senior boys and girls basketball. Alpha Secondary maintains a strong boys’ rugby program and girls’ netball program.
Burnaby Central has amazing artistic programs in Fashion Design as well as a Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Connects Program, where students will work with VSO Musicians for three clinics to improve their skills and musicianship as well as increase their understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a professional musician. Byrne Creek holds a one-of-a-kind Theatre Tech Program as well as a Media Arts Industry Training. Alpha Secondary School has an extensive Visual and Performing Arts Program includes Drama, Choir, Band, Dance, Ceramics and Sculpture, Drawing and Painting and Media and Graphic Arts.
Community Information
Burnaby Mountain is right on the Skytrain to Vancouver. In the winter time, students can use the ski bus to go night skiing on Grouse Mountain.

School Profile
Powell River School District has a newly established French Immersion program. The program is currently in its fifth year of implementation and has grown to over 100 students. A CADRE program is available through Brooks Secondary school, in conjunction with SD #93. The district has many programs available that provide choice and alternatives to respond to the diversity of student need.
Sports and Arts
Powell River School District offers the Coast Mountain Academy program, a high school Outdoor Education Program. It is one semester in length during which students spend time outdoors on trails, canoeing trips and hiking. At the end of the program, students receive numerous certificates (such as First Aid, Wilderness First Aid) for their outstanding achievements.
Brooks Secondary School offers a variety of electives including woodwork, metalwork, culinary arts, textiles, drama, photography, digital media, and video game design. Other unique programs offered are excellent opportunities students may take advantage of, such as carpentry, automotive, welding, culinary arts, hair dressing, and film school.

Just an hour away from Parksville is Strathcona Provincial Park, a 250,000-hectare, mountain wilderness next door to Mt. Washington Alpine Resort.
