Billie's First Impressions of Being An Exchange Student

The Day it All Began!!!

August 02, 2015 11:56

Iall begun August 1st 2015! To be honest the last five days prior to leaving for my exchange I was sceptical about whether or not I still wanted to go. I think it just really hit me that I would be leaving my Family for 5 months and I guess I wasn't confident about doing that because I'd never been apart from them more than 3 weeks!

However, the day had come! I said goodbye to my close friends the day before and next minute I knew my Mum, Dad, Sister and I were at Brisbane airport ready for me to embark on my journey. I was nervous to say the least and when the time had come to finally say goodbye to them before I caught my flight...... There were tears, mostly from me, and because of that I set off a chain reaction of tears, oops. I made it through airport security and waved goodbye to my Family as they watched me from the other side.

I sat there for about 20 minutes before our plane had taken off for our 12 hour and 30 minute flight to Los Angeles, where I would wait 4 hours before jumping on my final flight to my new home. As I sat there, butterflies filled my stomach with excitement and curiosity. I had waited 5 months for this day to arrive and just thought of stepping foot in the USA for the first time and finally getting to meet my Host Family became so real to me!! Any second thoughts I had were gone and I just could not wait to meet my family and start what would be a life changing journey!!!

All up the 18 hours worth of flights and waiting around Los Angeles had come to an end and I was waiting for my Host Mum to arrive! After the long ride home from the airport, and after getting to know my Host Mother a little better, getting to meet my Host Father, meeting their farm animals and getting to know more about my school, my new country and a little bit about what I will be doing over the next 5 months, I knew my journey away from home would be the best one yet!!! My host Mother and Father are some of the loveliest and caring people I've ever met and I became immediately welcomed into their home! In just a few hours I got to love everything about my exchange and I'm looking for to what’s yet to come!!!
