Rachael Rollbusch – QLD to Spain
Wed 21 Apr 2010
Rachael Rollbusch comes from Wavell Heights, QLD and is currently on exchange in Spain. She has provided us with a quick update on her experience so far:
Hola,
Just thought I´d write to tell you everything is great in Spain. My family is lovely, and I get on really well with my host mum. It´s been a big change for me, getting used to living in someone´s house and with siblings (I´ve never had them before!), but now I feel as though I´m part of the family and that this is home.
School is still a bit boring (especially Philosophy!), but I understand so much more now, which is great. I´ve made some fantastic friends, and we have hilarious "Spanglish" lunchtime conversations. My friendship group is just like in Australia - a quiet one, a crazy one, a normal one, a nerdy one... but they´re all great and I have a lot of fun with them whenever we do something together.
My Spanish is improving rapidly too, although sometimes it feels like it will take forever to know everything - there´s so much to learn! But I´m pretty happy with how it is - at least I can converse now, even if my sentence structure leaves a bit to be desired! They understand me, so that´s the main thing.
I´m really looking forward to summer - we had our first glimpse of it the other day when it was 28°! Quite a shock, but was nice to be out of the jeans and long shirts, I can tell you. Unfortunately now it´s freezing again and the wind is vicious.
Adios,
Rachael
