Chris Nichols - ACT to Argentina

Wed 07 Apr 2010

Chris Nichols comes from Farrer, ACT. He is currently on exchange in Argentina and has provided us with a quick update on his experience so far:

Just dropping you a quick line to let you know I’ve been having a swell time here in Argentina and everything has turned out well.

The flight/voyage was pretty painful, 40 hours altogether from Sydney to Rosario. The orientation camp in Rosario turned out to be pretty good but it probably would have been nice if they let us rest a little bit more seeing we had a bit of jet-lag and had to adjust to the 15 hour time difference as well.

I've now been in my town of Corral De Bustos in Cordoba Province and it's turned out to be quite great. The family, the people, the town, they´re all great. I feel that it's the perfect place to be for my exchange. At first I was worried that a small town wouldn't be my thing, but I quickly learnt that small towns here are completely different in comparison to towns of the same size in Australia. It´s really vivid and buzzing, a feeling that I was starved of in Canberra, which is about 30 times bigger in population than my town.

I decided not to go on the Iguazu trip because it was a bit expensive and I’ll be seeing some other places with my family in the next few months (Patagonia, Cordoba Sierras). I do have that yearning to see more of Argentina because the people here praise how beautiful the different parts are, so it's good to have those trips to look forward to.

Oh and my Spanish has greatly changed/improved in the last month and a half. At the start my accent was horrible and I was quite nervous, but now people say I speak very well etc. So I hope by the end of 5 months I will be somewhat fluent. Fingers crossed.

Best Regards from Argentina

Chris Nichols.
