Gemma Barnes - NSW to Italy

Fri 08 Jan 2010

Gemma Barnes, from Malabar NSW, is in Italy on a 3 month Summer Explorer program. She writes:

I just thought I would e-mail you to let you know that I am doing great. I am having so much fun and I haven't encountered any problems yet.

My host family is so great. It is just me, my sister and my mother. I have so much fun with my host sister, Ludovica because she is around my age. We are in the same class at school and go out together with friends some nights.

School is more fun than I expected it to be! My class at school is full of really nice people that have been my friends since the first day. They are so kind to me and I love to go out with them. At school I study English, French, Spanish, law, economics, maths, geography, art and history.

My teachers are very nice and I can understand the work in some classes. I love Spanish and maths because I can understand and am learning lots. My friends say that my Italian is better than since I arrived and I am very pleased.

At the moment I don't do any activities outside of school, but I might get to the Italian beginners class at the college up the road with the other exchange student in my year from Denmark. Her name is Laura and she is so nice.

I don't do much around the house and that is very strange for me because I have a few chores at home. Sometimes I feel a bit useless but I have found ways to help around the house like set the table and help cook dinner.

Gemma xx
