Jeremy Moesker - QLD to Austria
Mon 20 Aug 2007
Jeremy Moesker from Boonah State High School in QLD is currently in Austria on our long program. Here is his latest news.
Well hello there everyone!
I got back from my 4 week journey to Germany and The Netherlands on Friday night. In Germany I was staying in a small city called Düren which is near Cologne. (about 40 minutes away on the train) so I got see a fair bit of Cologne, which I really liked. The people there were really friendly. And I also went to Düsseldorf which had some great architecture, Bonn which isn't particularly that interesting and also a really pretty town called Aachen on the Dutch and Belgian border (but still in Germany). Also, while I was in Germany I went on a day trip to a town called Maastricht which is also a really pretty town in the south of The Netherlands. So, all in all, Germany was really awesome, (seeing my friend from Boonah was also retty cool) and it is definitely a place that I want to see more of!
Then, after spending two weeks in Germany, I caught the super-fast ICE train to Amsterdam. Hooray! Firstly, I will just say that Amsterdam is an awesome city! It is so beautiful with the canals and all the old (and narrow) houses! Although with all the canals and everything looking the exactly same it is not hard at all to get lost which is what I did a number of times! Anyway... I got a to see a bit of Amsterdam that way! Unfortunately, the Rijks Museum (or however you spell it) was closed due to renovations. But luckily there were heaps of other things to do.
During my stay there was the Amsterdam Pride Festival which was held on the canals not the street. Thats was pretty cool... I had a good spot on one of the trillion bridges in Amsterdam. There were also lots of spectators on boats.
For two nights in a row I went to this comedy club in amsterdam (it was in English) where I met some really cool people. A young American couple on the first night and then an American mother and daughter (but the mother grew up in Melbourne! Hooray!) So that was pretty cool. You meet some really nice people when travelling!
One day I went to a beach called Zaanfort am See where I got really sunburned even though I was under an umbrella. I also went to Rotterdam for a day trip where I saw some great architecture. Everything there is new! A lot different to Amsterdam.
So all in all it was a really good four weeks away but it is also nice to be back home again in Austria! Today I am sick because yesterday I went to Graz with a friend of mine and some of her friends and I think I ate a bad schnitzel!
Bye for now
Jeremy
