Skye Temby sent us this update from her semester program to Italy.
Everything is fabulous! 10 out of 10. My family is amazing and I have made heaps of friends I know I will stay in contact with. How could i not be happy?
I am really close to my host family and will be very sad to leave them. They are very supportive and accepted me into their lives straight away. My host sister is incredible and was so very helpful when I first arrived. I feel as if I belong in the family, not just a outsider.
School is very difficult work wise but socially is amazing. I spend all day at school for most of the week so am with my classmates for more time than anyone else. As a result I have gotten to know everyone really well and have made a few very good friends. It is a bit hard because my host sister is in the same class and her friends have become my friends... i don't have any social independance I suppose. But i don't mind really.
I am very happy with the progress. I have improved so much and understand pretty much everything. I know I need to talk more but it is only because I don't know what to say sometimes... Everyone is really patient though and although I still get frustrated, it is not as much as before.
My local coordinator is very good and always makes sure I'm doing okay. Not much else you could ask for. I haven't really needed to test out the support system so I guess that is a good thing.
