Scholarship winners Dylan Walton will travel to France and Jack Branagan to Germany.
TWO Blackburn High School students will be circling the globe next year due to their gift of the gab when it comes to languages.
Year 10 students Dylan Walton and Jack Branagan have won prestigious language scholarships to travel and study overseas.
Community liaison manager Margie Lanyon said in an increasingly global world, being able to speak another language was an invaluable skill.
“Dylan Walton was the only Victorian student to be awarded the World Education Program Scholarship for students studying French,“she said.
“This considerable achievement is a testament to the quality of the language program at Blackburn High School and to Dylan’s initiative and commitment to study.”
Ms Lanyon said the scholarship would allow him to pursue his French studies at a school in Belgium.
Year 10 co-ordinator Jarrod Main said Jack was awarded an Australian and New Zealand Student Exchange scholarship to Germany.
He said as part of the selection process, Jack had to write an essay on “Why study German?”, and the quality of this, plus his outstanding personal qualities, made him stand out from his peers.
Don’t forget that the next deadline for scholarship applications (and our Early Bird Discount!) is 31st October 2011 for departure mid 2012. You could join Jack as a Student Exchange scholarship winner.
